Slowly slowly

Greetings one and all.

Well. Things are coming together...'Tokyo in the Sky' is coming along nicely.

I've scoped out the best ticketing options. Lots of emails here and there, corresponding with ticketing companies to try and get the best deal. I drew up a pro's and cons chart, but still have to make the final decision. Still waiting on ticketing companies to get back to me.

I have to attend lots of meetings scheduled for this Friday.- One with The C Restaurant, Audiovisual company and Eating WA. It will be interesting to sit there and see how things come together from nothing- to see how event managers build business elsewhere to create an event.

I got to work on a media release today... Can't say I'm too fond of them yet- I hope I like them better as time goes by- I just can't formulate the right words, and get to the point. Takes me ages to nail a sentence and even then I feel like I could spend another hour on it.

I put together a marketing plan- This included situation analysis, SWOT, Target Market demographics. Tamara was impressed with it, which was encouraging. It's nice to know your efforts make a difference, and your doing the right thing. Alot of the time I find myself thinking 'I bet you've done it wrong' ha ha turns out I'm doing okay.

It's good to know the money we have paid to go to uni really IS an investment- it's easy to think as a student 'will i really use this in the real world- Am I wasting my time!' But it goes to show, especially in Sarah's case with St John of God Ambulance- That we actually apply what we have learned to real life situations. ...That would have been a very intense day and the importance of crisis communication would have made a lot more sense.

Blog writing is actually quiet rewarding- to get a glimpse of how others feel about their placement. It's good to know I'm not the only one to lack confidence- But i guess that comes with learning and time. If you continually do something, you find a way to be the better at it.

Hey All.

This is my first post. I started my prac unit last Tuesday, 12 August.

I've realised, doing things for real is not as daunting as I imagined. I used to dread 3rd year because I knew we had to do a practical unit. Now I am actually really excited.
I'll give you a brief overview of what I'm up to.

I am doing my placement at Known Associates Events on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday's. It is an events company that organises prestigious events, and donates proceeds to a selected charity. This is what I love most about it: hard work for a good cause.

I have been assigned to work as co-ordinator on a the New Years Day event 'Tokyo in the Sky'. You probably figured it has a Japanese theme. I will be responsible for all tasks associated with PR. There is lots planning ahead (competitor analysis, website, tickets, advertising,sponsorship, entertainment)

So far I have done a competitor analysis based on various events held on New Years Day, the target market etc.
I also completed a website 'storyboard'. A storyboard is basically a visual map of what each page on the website will include for the event. Its important to have all the right information so customers are completely aware and have all the necessary details of the event. This will then be passed on to the website designer.

I am working on the sponsorship proposal at the moment.Lots of work to do on sponsorship... identifying the right sponsors to match the event and its target market. I pulled out my handy 'Strategic Pulic Relations' book. I'm very thankful I didn't dump it at the second hand book shop, thinking I'd never touch it again.
